The Gloucester Biltong Co.

About Us

The Gloucester Biltong Company opened its doors 9 years ago in the hope of revolutionising ‘the guilty pleasure’ of snacking, born off of the back of an Englishman’s love of homemade Biltong (and a lot of nagging from those that had been lucky enough to sample it!) the idea was created to make a healthy high protein, low sugar snack accessible to all, everyone had heard of protein bars that tasted like your favourite chocolate and drinks that mimicked a milkshake but there was nothing savoury that you could pick up quickly after a gym session to fulfill that need for protein.

So, Paul got to work - research & planning commenced and a small team was assembled, It was really important to everyone involved to only use the finest British Beef, the most authentic spices and keep anything like allergens, preservatives and flavour enhancers out of the equation.

The Gloucester Biltong Company vowed to use only local where possible and can still proudly say, 9 years on, that their circle is small enough to know each supplier personally - they’ve created a completely ‘clean’ allergen free, preservative free, MSG free, low sugar, high protein ‘snack’ for those who are conscious of what they are consuming, whether it be to support a healthy lifestyle, or simply to enjoy the food that they are eating.

The Gloucester Biltong Company remains 100% family owned and run, Paul can still be found getting his hands dirty in the marinading room weekly and will continue to do so without question, to ensure the integrity of the product created stays the same, always!

Real people, using real ingredients, to make a really delicious snack, it’s as simple as that!

What is Biltong?

Biltong is an air dried, cured meat, originating from South Africa, it can be made using various meats, but beef is the most common choice here in the U.K. and the type found in the bags at The Gloucester Biltong Company.

Meat preservation dates back to ancient times as a survival technique using salt, brines and vinegars - it was also considered, in these times, that spices such as pepper, coriander and cloves contained anti microbial properties - although not marketed this way now, the ancient philosophy of these ingredients can still be found in the Biltong being made today.
